Storyteller Series - Our Moms - Meet Yesenia

We asked each of our house moms the same set of questions, everything from their greatest joy in serving at Casa Bernabé, to raising their own children alongside our Casa Bernabé kids, proud mom moments, and some of their favorite pictures of themselves as a mom.

Today we are excited to introduce you to Yesenia, mom of two beautiful daughters and our boys in Casa Samuel.

1.     How long have you been at Casa Bernabé?

I have served at Casa Bernabé for 19 years.

2.      Have you served in other roles?

I have worked as a teacher and for the last 7 years as a house mom in Casa Samuel

2. What is your greatest joy in serving in Casa Bernabé?

My greatest joy at serving in Casa Bernabé, has always been the children and seeing the transformation that God makes in their lives

3.     What breaks your heart?

What breaks my heart the most is the experience and neglect that most have suffered before coming to Casa Bernabé.

4. As a mother, what is it like to raise your biological children together with the other children in your care?

It is a good thing because Casa Bernabé is a wonderful place with an inclusive environment for everyone including my biological daughters, although one of the complications is the time that I may not have available to dedicate to my daughters.

5.     What are some of the proud "mom" moments of this past year for any of the children in your home?

One of my proud moments is to see the genuine change God is making in the life of one of the young men and also to see someone who has allowed his guard down and sees me as his mother, this makes me proud. I also feel a great responsibility for the excellent care that I must give to every life that comes into my hands.

6.     What does it mean to you to be a mom?

Being a mom to each of these children and young people to me is a privilege, there are challenges that are lived daily, but most of the time they are amazing young people.

I'm a mom of two girls and the experience of being a boy-mom is another story, they're so loving and helpful.

Being a mom means being committed to giving children the love and care that they need every single day.

7. How can we help you better?

One of the ways you can support us is by praying for the lives of each of the boys, for the Lord to finish the work that has already begun in them, and also that the boys have their all of their needs met so that they can continue with the healing they have already begun.

We asked our houses moms to share some of their favorite photos of them “being a mom.”
